What's REALLY going on with Trump's Tweets?

As bizarre as many of them seem, there is an astute political strategy behind the tweets of the president elect - deflecting the narrative.

OK, so some of them may REALLY be stream-of-consciousnesses rants.....

But some are carefully constructed and timed to deflect the the narrative from critical comments about Trump to criticism of the critic.

Example:

  1. Meryl Streep makes blistering comments about the president elect - guaranteed to get point-by-point coverage.
  2. Trump tweets that she is an overrated actress.
  3. Narrative deflected to whether Streep is overrated, defending her, and only briefly describing her comments about Trump.
It may not always true, but often, Trump's posts are specifically constructed to deflect the original criticism of him, and give Trump supporters talking points against the original critic.

Note that the more outrageous the Trump tweet, the better this works.

Some of his tweets may be simple rantings, but many are astute manipulation of the social media and conventional media narrative about him. Because of his position, the media can hardly NOT report what he says...about anything.
